Football Kenya Federation (FKF) condemned hooliganism that caused the abandonment of the Nairobi United vs Gor Mahia match at Dandora Stadium stating that such conduct was unacceptable and has no place in Kenyan football.
The federation has referred the matter to its judicial bodies and called for statements from club and match officials while criminal investigations proceed.
In a statement issued on December 21, 2025, FKF described the conduct that disrupted the match as “unacceptable and has no place in Kenyan football.”
The federation confirmed that the matter has been formally referred to its judicial bodies for determination, while club and match officials have been instructed to record statements to aid the disciplinary process.
The federation stressed that criminal investigations by relevant authorities will run in parallel, highlighting the seriousness of the incidents.
FKF emphasized that acts of this nature not only threaten the safety of participants but also undermine the integrity of the league and damage its public image.
FKF also expressed concern for broadcast partners affected during the event. The statement said, “FKF also empathises with Azam TV following the vandalism of their broadcast van. Our broadcast partners play a critical role in growing the league, and their safety and infrastructure must be respected.”
The federation stressed that protecting broadcasters is essential to maintain confidence among fans, sponsors, and investors.
According to FKF, the violent incidents reverse progress being made to professionalize and grow Kenyan football.
The federation warned that such disruptions erode confidence in the league and compromise efforts to establish a professional and sustainable sporting environment.
“Our priority is to take firm action and ensure accountability, as safeguarding the image of the league and the future of Kenyan football remains a top priority,” FKF said.
The statement underlined the federation’s commitment to discipline and governance in line with national and international standards.
FKF’s leadership, including President Hussein Mohammed, General Secretary Harold Ndege, and Vice-President McDonald Mariga, collectively condemned the acts and called for cooperation from all stakeholders.
They highlighted the importance of enforcing rules and maintaining order, particularly as Kenyan football continues efforts to attract investment and professionalize the league.
The abandoned match between Nairobi United and Gor Mahia is part of the wider SportPesa League calendar, which has seen increasing attention from fans, sponsors, and international observers.
Incidents like this, FKF stated, risk undermining public trust and the league’s credibility, which has been steadily improving through structured competitions, improved governance, and enhanced media coverage.
The federation’s statement signals a zero-tolerance approach toward hooliganism, emphasizing that both clubs and individuals will be held accountable for actions that disrupt matches or threaten the safety of players, officials, and media personnel.
FKF indicated that its judicial processes will determine any sanctions, which may include fines, suspensions, or other measures as appropriate.
